Beginners Course - Introduction to making your own Skin Care products

A One-Day course with Kolbjørn Borseth

Kolbjørn BorsethOverview:

Students of this one-day intensive course will receive practical experience in making skin-care products as well an introduction to some essential theory and principles. This course serves as a foundation for those interested in developing their knowledge either through further courses or by studying at home using the Aromantic Educational Packs. For others, the Beginners Course is a great way to get-started with a new hobby purely for pleasure without the need for further commitment.

Students will receive the complete Education Pack 1 as part of the course material, consisting of 135 recipes and a wealth of important information on the basic raw materials that are used. In addition to the information published in this pack, Kolbjørn shares several 'insider-secrets' that are not published in any of the Aromantic literature.

Course Contents:

Theory session:

The day begins with an introduction to skin-care products and raw materials used in cosmetic making. Kolbjørn explains the historical usage of fats, oils and waxes (e.g. olive oil, shea butter, etc) in different cultures. Comparisons are made between the damaging use of minerals in skin-care products and the many benefits of using vegetable oils and fats.

Kolbjørn covers the use of fatty acids and stresses the importance of knowing which ones to avoid for particular skin types and conditions.

Students learn about the most important vegetable oils and fats used in different skin products such as:

  • moisturisers
  • ointments
  • gels
  • eczema creams
  • psoriasis creams

"I had a very enjoyable time during my three days course. Your teachings are profound and explicit, which was very helpful. Hopefully, I will learn from you again in the near future."

Students receive several recipes and learn how to tailor-make these products for specific conditions using natural materials, such as:

  • Shea butter
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Sweet Almond oil
  • Apricot kernel oil
  • Peach kernel oil
  • Borage oil
  • Evening Primrose oil
  • Thistle / Safflower oil

Practical session:

Following the demonstration by Kolbjørn of making a moisturising cream, questions can be asked before the students are divided into groups of 4 per table. Each group makes 200ml of cream which can be fragranced with essential oil. Students are able to take home 3 x 15ml jars of cream each.

After lunch the same procedure is followed, this time making two different types of shampoo, followed by two types of gel and finally lip balms. Each student may take home 5 different lip balms that they have prepared during the course.

The day is completed with a Questions & Answers session.

NOTE: Before learning how to make a product Kolbjørn will discuss the benefits of the product and demonstrate the exact utensils and raw materials required. ALL raw materials and utensils are provided and students usually work in groups of 4 per table. A printed hand-out of the recipe and technique is also given to each student at the beginning of every demonstration. This enables the student to focus upon the 'hands-on' aspect of the session and ensures that each participant leaves with a complete set of notes and recipes for future reference.

What you receive as a participant on this course:

  • 3 x 15ml jars of moisturising creams for dry skin
  • 1 x 50 ml bottle of dry hair shampoo with conditioner
  • 1 x 50 ml bottle of greasy hair shampoo with conditioner
  • 1 x 25ml bottle aloe vera gel
  • 1 x 25ml bottle tea tree gel
  • 5 lip balms
  • You will also receive our Educational Pack 1 containing over 135 recipes for creams, gels, lip balms, ointments, sun creams, lotions, massage oils, shampoos, conditioners, soaps, face-masks and tooth pastes. This also includes information about raw materials and natural perfumes.
