Advanced Practical Course - Massage Products

A One-Day course with Kolbjørn Borseth

Overview:

Kolbjørn Borseth was educated nearly 20 years ago at Axelsons, the largest training school in Sweden teaching Swedish massage. He developed massage products for the school based on natural raw materials including a unique massage lotion which every student now receives when they start their course.

We use massage lotions and creams because you can add both water soluble and fat soluble raw materials to your products. You can only add fat soluble ingredients to a massage oil. Our special massage lotions and creams can incorporate 50 - 60% vegetable oils and fats together with other water soluble raw materials such as moisturisers, C-Vitamin, aloe vera etc. This is achieved by adding special emulsifiers which can hold large amounts of vegetable oils which can then act as a massage oil and a moisteurising lotion in one product.

This course is ideal for massage therapists, complimentary therapists including aromatherapists and beauticians who wish to enhance the therapeutic quality of their products as well as those who wish to make their own products for personal or commercial use.

The emphasis of this course is on developing an understanding of raw materials used in making advanced massage products, tailor-made for specific skin care conditions. This knowledge is then applied by making some different massage products, including:

  • Massage lotions
  • Massage creams
  • Massage bars
  • Massage oils for Swedish massage

"I just wanted to drop you a line and thank you for last Friday's course at Whitwood College in Yorkshire, I had a fantastic time learning something new about a subject that I have been interested in for a while. It still amazes me how many people will apply toxins to their bodies in the name of beauty/vanity, so thanks for taking the time to share with the world your wealth of knowledge. Hopefully through your work, you will help to create a paradigm shift in people's attitudes towards a healthier, less polluted planet. I look forward to meeting you again, in the meantime keep up the good work."

Course Contents:

After a morning session exploring in-depth the various raw materials used in making massage products. Students then have the opportunity to make five types of massage bars. These include Vitamin bar, Excema bar, Sun massage bar, Arnica massage bar and a Massage bar for pleasure. After lunch, Kolbjørn demonstrates how to make a three types of massage lotions and creams for sensitive, dry and mature skin. Students are then able to work in groups of 4 and make these three types of products for themselves.

NOTE: Before learning how to make a product Kolbjørn will discuss the benefits of the product and demonstrate the exact utensils and raw materials required. ALL raw materials and utensils are provided and students usually work in groups of 4 per table. A printed hand-out of the recipe and technique is also given to each student at the beginning of every demonstration. This enables the student to focus upon the 'hands-on' aspect of the session and ensures that each participant leaves with a complete set of notes and recipes for future reference.

The final practical session is focused upon making special massage oils for Swedish massage tailor made for different skin conditions.

The day is completed with a Questions & Answers session.

What you receive as a participant on this course:

  • 41 new recipes
  • 2 comprehensive recipe booklets containing recipes for massage lotions, massage creams and massage oils.
  • The products above that you make on the course
