Advanced Practical Course - Compresses and Toothpastes

The course will introduce many raw materials used in making compresses, toothpastes and mouthwashes. The properties and origins of these will be discussed and practical sessions will enable each student to apply this knowledge to making real products from recipes provided. This course will benefit therapists who want to enhance the healing properties of their products and tailor-make their products to suit their clients. It will also benefit those who wish to make products for their own use.

Course Contents:

The day begins with Kolbjørn explaining the theory of compresses and why they are used. The background to this comes from Lily Johansen who worked with 50 - 60 compresses on her patients at the complimentary health hospital. The patients were strolling on the streets every afternoon with compresses around their different body parts.

After the theory, Kolbjørn will demonstrate a few compresses. The students will make compresses themselves like chamomile, green clay compresses etc. that they can take home to use on themselves or clients. The students will also try out different compresses on each other. You will be given a recipe brochure with 25 different types of compresses for skin problems.

NOTE: Before learning how to make a product Kolbjørn will discuss the benefits of the product and demonstrate the exact utensils and raw materials required. ALL raw materials and utensils are provided and students usually work in groups of 4 per table. A printed hand-out of the recipe and technique is also given to each student at the beginning of every demonstration. This enables the student to focus upon the 'hands-on' aspect of the session and ensures that each participant leaves with a complete set of notes and recipes for future reference.

After lunch students learn how to make various toothpastes and mouthwashes and may take these products home with them after the course (containers and toothpaste tubes are provided).

After a tea break the course focuses upon products to heal varicose veins. Participants learn how to make a cream and two types of varicose veins gels that are very effective for this purpose. Each student will take home two types of gel. You will be given a comprehensive recipe brochure with different recipes for creams, gels, baths and compresses. Included are other raw materials and tips for treatment of varicose veins.

The day is completed with a Questions & Answers session.
