Advanced Theory 1 - Optimising Massage Oils & VitaminsA Two-Day course with Erling Urt Overview:This course is ideal for aromatherapists, massage therapists and some other complementary health practitioners. Erling demonstrates how to combine vegetable oils with mega-doses of vitamins which are absorbed through the skin to achieve certain beneficial effects, particularly when used in prescription massage oils. Erling Urt has an incredible knowledge of vegetable oils and vitamins
used on the skin. He has developed his scientific knowledge of this
subject over the past 30 years, creating his own extremely sophisticated
classification system. This depth of knowledge has been recorded as
a comprehensive written compendium, and a vast recipe book and 'recipe
dictionary' - forming the basic course material which each student
receives when attending this course.
Course ContentsTheory sessions: Erling shares his extensive knowledge of this fascinating subject by first explaining how vegetable oils are processed and how best to store them. Students will gain an understanding of the different properties of fats and oils, which ones to avoid and the ones that are best used. Erling will explain the basics of oil chemistry so that it is possible to understand how the different fatty acids are constructed, including the molecular properties of Omega fats. Especially important is the knowledge of the different melting points of fats and how this can be applied to developing products for treating different skin conditions. Working with a compendium Erling demonstrates how to work with this information to of create your own prescription massage oils starting with a base oil. For example, he will show students how to test an oil for qualities such as vintage (i.e. whether the oil is 'short' or 'long') - vital if one is creating massage oils for different applications. Vegetable oils are classified by Erling into 17 different types ranging from sticky to smooth, dry to fat, etc. The theoretical side of the course is therefore consistently applied to specific situations such as understanding the different requirements for making massage oils for the face as opposed to the body and catering to special skin conditions. Over 1,800 recipes for massage oils and face oils are provided as part of the course material, including recipes using megadoses of vitamins for different skin conditions. There will be several opportunities for Questions & Answers during the two days including times when you can discuss issues personally with Erling outside of the structured course times. Practical sessions: During the two days students will work in groups of four per table, making different recipes for face and massage oils which can be taken home at the end of the course.
