A One-Day course with Kolbjorn Borseth

Overview:

This advanced course combines theory and practice and is a very intensive course during which we make a lot of professional anti-wrinkle/skin rejuvenation products that can be for your own use, sold to your therapy clients, or sold commercially to the public. A comprehensive range of course materials are provided for each student and several products made during the practical sessions are for students to take home.

Who will benefit from attending this course?

  • Beauty therapists/salons/aromatherapists/cosmetologists and estheticians (US) who want to create their own range of spa products to sell to the public.
  • Aromatherapists, beauticians, body work therapists and others who work in the field of healing or complementary medicine who want to enhance the service they provide to their clients with an add-on service of providing tailor-made products.
  • Homecrafters - those who wish to make the products for their own use – you may be a private person who is interested in making your own cosmetics and toiletries for your friends or family.

Course Contents:

We start the day with the theory part about natural raw materials for Anti-Wrinkle and Skin Rejuvenation. The first part is generally about antioxidants. The very comprehensive brochure that is handed out discusses about 40 different raw materials that are excellent for different reasons and for different products. After a short break Kolbjorn demonstrates hoe to make an anti-wrinkle/skin rejuvenation cream. After dividing the student sup into groups of up to 5 per table, students make 2 types of creams: dry/sensitive/mature skin or oily skin/moisturiser.

After lunch we make 2 types of gel serums with many active ingredients in them.
After a tea break, we have a theory part about rebalancing skin types to more normal skin. I feel that this is an interesting and appropriate topic to work on for therapists serving people with special skin types such as oily skin, large-pored skin and acne prone skin.

How is it possible to rebalance these skin types towards a more ‘normal’ skin type? A very important factor in answering this question is to work skilfully with the freezing points of vegetables and the melting points of fats that we put on the skin.

You will be given a comprehensive handout about how to practically help to rebalance these skin types and conditions. The paper also teaches students: about detecting serious fatty acid deficiency symptoms; about skin absorption times; melting points of fats and freezing points of vegetable oils; and percentages of vegetable oils to use in different products.

After a short break, students make 2 of the recipes from a choice of 9 recipes in the brochure to rebalance skin types as well as making 4 recipes from another comprehensive brochure called ‘Recipes for Oil Blends for Face, Body and Massage: Anti-Wrinkle and Skin Rejuvenation’.

This brochure contains:
28 recipes for oil serums: face lifting for all skin types; glossy skin serums; etc. All of these recipes contain megadoses of vitamins;
26 Face and Body Oils, including: for all skin types; glossy; luminous; face lifting, etc. Massage and Body Oils: 2 sports massage recipes; and 2 recipes for each of the skin types.

NOTE: Before learning how to make a product Kolbjorn will discuss the benefits of the product and demonstrate the exact utensils and raw materials required. ALL raw materials and utensils are provided and students usually work in groups of 4 per table. A printed hand-out of the recipe and technique is also given to each student at the beginning of every demonstration. This enables the student to focus upon the 'hands-on' aspect of the session and ensures that each participant leaves with a complete set of notes and recipes for future reference.

The day is completed with a Questions & Answers session and the handing out of certificates.
